Play time
The Council has put in place a three year programme of improvements to play areas. This will include a new piece of equipment for the play park at Muir Street, Law along with the fitting of safe play surfaces to the play areas in the Whiteshaw estate in Carluke.

Affter years of negotiation, it gives me some satisfaction to report the end of the long-running maintenance problem in the small play area at Westend Court, Law.
WE now have agreement with the developers to pay the maintenance costs for the next twenty years.

David Shearer

Councillor for Law and Maldslie estate

Gateway to Safety

Law is to get a new look with improvements to the entrance to the village, these "village gateways" are designed to improve road safety by reminding drivers that they are entering a 30 mph zone.

The gateways will be constructed on Station Road and Brownlee Road and will be made up of a large 30 mph sign painted on the road with other markings known as "dragon's teeth" This will reinforce the need to slow down as you enter the village.

Road safety is also at the top of the agenda at our local primary schools. I have asked the roads department to look at the roads around Law and Kirkton Primaries with the hope that something can be done about the problems of congestion and speeding. Any solution will be subject to public consultation and the normal financial restrictions.

UP ON THE ROOF

As part of the councils housing capital programme, the roesmary roof tiles in part of Law are being replaced.
The streets covered are Muir Street, Shawfield Crescent, Greenknowe Drive and Station Road.
Grants are available to owner-occupiers to allow them to be part of this improvement programme.
I would ask residents to be both patient and carful while work is being carried out.
